High Tide

Tears cascading down the face
In silent droplets that erase
And tear the skin like acid rain
In single file, downward chase
Scrapping clawing to escape
The fluid sodden, sunken eyes
That close as heavy cotton drapes
And as the narrow throat subsides
A climbing clump of coal--the airway
Shuts, and strains to open wide
Draining from a swollen brow
Heavy waves upon high tide
Blood floods hollow cheeks now
Stain the visage crimson red
Trembling body, chronic weeps
Resounding through an unkempt bed
