Holes

By Anum

Holes
Surely do not forget the difference
between a want, and a need.
A scale they lay upon, outweighing one another.
A universal need is a full heart,
one that beats solely for yourself.
“Happy hearts are rare,” they say.
Young minds are influenced to find someone
to fill that gaping hole of the “needed” space in their heart.
To validate,
compensate,
for the love that they are missing.
The love within themselves.
Do not dig that hole deeper, for loving yourself isn’t enough.
A mindset that a “heart for two” is the happiness of life,
a hole your heart will remain.
You do not need words from another, to patch it.
Not love from someone, to repair it.
No one but yourself, to fill it.
