How Could We Forget?

The haze of every day, blinding, asleep, silence
A tragedy awakens, the fog clears and suddenly we are angry
How Could We Forget?

Blood runs through streets, through schools, through homes
Crying, outraged, coming together - unity so sombre
How Could We Forget?

Sympathy only runs for so long
Empathy, once a foundation, lies in loud viral strains then fades
How Could We Forget?

What is left is the poison of possession, tainted with tradition
Time steals the focus
How Could We Forget?

Yet thousands grieve, hearts forever broken
The haze seeps back, covering the dead
How Could We Forget?
