We teach girls shame
That showing skin is a distraction
That their bodies are made to be hidden
That they are to blame for any inappropriate advances
If her shorts were longer
If her shoulders were covered
If she wasn't out late
If she acted a bit more confident
He feeds the investigators excuse after excuse
"I just couldn't control myself!"
Of course he couldn't
How could you hold him responsible?
It was my fault after all
Honestly, I should have enjoyed it
I just had to go and make a big deal out of nothing
But it wasn't just nothing
We are taught how to avoid rape
When we should be taught to not rape at all
No one asks for this violation
No one asks for this type of pain
I can't help but think as I try to hide
That promoting changes to prevent rape
Is the same thing as saying
"Rape the other girl"
Stop victim blaming
Stop making pretence into an artform
Stop making me afraid to say 'No'
But above all, stop making me feel guilty
