How to Live in Society

Society consists of only three simple steps,
Step One: Depression
Tears,
You don't want to be here.
Step Two: Oppression
Wear this, wear that.
Don't succeed,
Be what they want you to be,
Society demands it.
Step Three: Possession
Run away,
Become them.
Anger them,
Be friends.
Leave them to die,
Deal with them.
How do you want to live here?
Possessed,
Or obsessed?

This Poems Story

I don't use the term "society" a lot, but in my poem "How to Live in Society," I had to. My original idea was about the education system, but I realized the real reason was that it was driven by stereotypes. The idea behind depression, oppression, and possession, was that most students in middle school and high school feel like they are being pushed to "fit in" by their peers. I decided to give these people a voice. It's pretty sad I can understand things, I mean I am only eleven years old. I really hope that parents and other students get the original idea of it, but it is intended for your own interpretation of the poem. Thanks for reading!
