I wish you and I could give each other a hug
a hug blooming with tender buds of orange and red
and mend the red oak tree growing between us
from losing its foliage
during a languish of fall into winter

We may not be able to resist the course of a cyclone
rolling from season to season
It changes you
and it changes me too

Perhaps we can preserve a moment in our hearts and eyes
with one gentle hug
a hug that embraces not only our friendship but time itself

Are your arms spread open like a pair of tree limbs
because mine are
and they always will be
