Human

Please God, don't let me get stuck in that
bare world I hear so much about--
where everything tastes like Cheerios,
and the same monotonous alarm rings at 6:00 AM,
where the same people do the same thing,
like broken heads.
I want to run with my eyes closed, tripping on each
pebble and blade of grass.
I want to watch the world spin and change seasons,
watch my country sing red, white, and blue.

I want to hold my own hand and feed myself
green willows.
Please don't let me sleep in and miss the sunrise.
Don't let me live on all fours,
let me explore the earth on my left foot,
let me uncover the world with my 3 cm binoculars.
Let me make mistakes like we are supposed to do,
like humans.
Because that is
what I am.
