I, Abdul Kalam!

It was the night when,
The smell of the wet mire
Made me remember
Those days of insusceptible struggle
Under the chipped ceiling with leaking water,
When there was no one to succour
Or to aid my splintered heart;

It was the night when,
The incalculable drops of rain made me remember
Those incalculable days of selling newspapers,
When there was no one to understand the importance of my urge to learn;

It was the night when,
The drizzling sound of the rain drops,
Made me remember
Those days of unwelcomed scilence,
That loved to stay persistent in between
The love, warmth and fondness within our family;

Today, I stand right here, keeping my chin high with
Contentment, gratification and all the pleasure
And I can shout my name out to everyone,
I, Abdul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam!
