I Am a Woman

Darkness, darkness all around
Darkness, darkness I'm falling down.

God, God pick me up.
God, God fill my cup.

Fill it with water; fill it with wine.
God, God help me dine.

Don't let me dine on sorrow.
Help me dine to tomorrow,

A day I hope to see,
But maybe by then I won't be.

Maybe by then my husband will beat me until I am all gone.
Maybe by then my husband will beat me until I am a song,

A song that no one will ever sing.
God, they don't think I'm a human being.

I want to love. I want to live.
God, I have much to give.

God, God I have children. I'm fourteen.
God, God only you know the things I've seen.
