I Am: An Immigrant

I Am

I am an immigrant; hopeful and faithful.
I wonder if I'll ever get a raise.
I hear the voice of my boss saying "you're getting a raise".
I see my life, much better than it is now.
I want a better life.
I am an immigrant; hopeful and faithful.

I pretend like I belong here.
I feel happy when I think of my family someday being here with me.
I touch the faces of my kids, smiling.
I worry that I might lose my job.
I cry when I realize how alone and far away I am from my family.
I am an immigrant; hopeful and faithful.

I understand that one day, my kids might have
to face the struggles I am facing.
I say "Only God knows."
I dream that God will come down and take us
away from all this misery and pain.
I try to make the best of what I have.
I hope for a better tomorrow.
I am an immigrant; hopeful and faithful.
