I Am, Because We Are
Every bad day is only twenty-four hours long.
Every darkness turns into light.
The sun is always behind the rain,
so we are optimistic.
Grinning from ear to ear,
day after day,
despite our brutal reality, so long as,
you stand tall beside me.
We woke up today, alive and well,
no broken bones and no lost family.
We had breakfast today,
so you and I can only be cheery.
When our mothers are pregnant,
our fathers need help with the cow,
and our siblings cannot fend for themselves,
I lend you a hand and you return the favor willingly.
A lie is a lie is a lie,
and excluding part of the truth,
is a lie.
It is easier to remember the truth,
between you and I.
Toiling arduously under the sun,
hour upon hour,
because when we finish our work,
you and I can share a success.
Trusted with responsibilities we all share.
Loyal to not only my family,
but my community,
just as you stay true to me.
