I Am Here
I am from the laptops and the tablets,
I am from the broken toys and dog bones,
from the pine sap and Lysol,
from mother's sweet, strong, scented perfume to the sharp, sour milk.
I am from "whatcha know good,"
from Monopoly and Sorry, I am from Broadway musicals,
from Natalie, Stephen, Mary, Phyllis and Larry,
from Michael Jackson's "Black or White."
I am from Love Wins
from 1 Corinthians 13:4-8
from the steamy, gooey, creamy Mac&Cheese, from the golden brown chicken
I am from the juicy, sizzling bacon cheeseburgers
I am from the Christmas Eve dinners,
from being forced to move from our home
I am from "Nothing Gold can stay"
from a naturals
to B flats, to D sharps
I am from sheet music that grabs you and takes you on a musical ride,
I am from Christianity,
from my terrible birthday parties
from my first tricycle
I am from the hot, humid, hazy weather,
from voice lessons to recording sessions
from baking to frying, I am from the pale, dusty photo albums
in the back grandmother's closet
