I Am Not Gone

I am not dead.
I was not the before
I was neither the end.
I am the air that you breathe,
I am the wind in the breeze.
I am the force which rocks the seas,
I am the ground where you fell to your knees,
I am every tear that you had released.
I am the flower you placed at my grave,
I am every memory that you had made.
Not ever dead, not ever alive.
Gone is a word used to bound our lives.

My name is Matthew and I am a seventeen-year-old high school junior. I live on the Jersey Shore with my parents and sister. The inspiration for my poem came from studying the sect of Eastern philosphy called "mindfulness" which teaches the unity of the universe in our immensely complex world. Therefore, no birth, no death, and thus "I Am Not Gone."
