I Am Special

I'm told my skin is too dark
I'm told my hair is too nappy
But still I'm strong
I'm told that I will not amount to anything
But I can be anything
If I put my mind to it

I'm told I dress too weird
I'm told I eat too loud
But yet I'm still here
Still black and I'm proud
Proud to be a little black girl from Rocky Mount NC
Proud to be my Mama and Daddy's child

See what people fail to realize
That I can be whatever I want to be
A Lawyer
A Doctor
A Teacher
I can make history
And through it all
I will stand tall
As proud
And humble
As I can be
And I can only be me
