I Am Worth It

By Phoenix

I stood by you,
Through all of your hard times.
But when mine came knocking,
You wouldn't answer the door.

I would swim oceans for you,
As long as it meant that you were okay.
Yet, when I started to drown,
You let me.

No matter what you did,
Or how much you turned me away,
I was always there for you.
Because you were worth it.

It took me a long time to accept it.
To accept that I wasn't worth the same to you.
So when I finally left,
I was able to tell myself different.

This Poems Story

Emotional Abuse and neglect is a hard thing to overcome. It breaks you down and you feel worthless. I wrote this months after I was free of the pain. Once I was able to build myself up, I realized I shouldn’t have let them bring me down in the first place.
