I Came

I Came
(Remembering Joyce)

I came to you for friendship,
I found love.

I came to you wanting to hold your warm, soft hands,
I found gentle, comforting arms.

I came to you alone, lonesome,
I found caring, understanding, and companionship.

I came to you for quiet smiles,
I found laughter.

I came to you unsure, not knowing,
I found certainty and direction.

I came to you from yesterday,
I found today, tomorrow.

I came to you without voice,
I found words and songs to sing.

I came to you without plan or purpose,
I found the fullness of life and living.
