I Gave You the World

I gave you the world
along with the stars
and the moon
I gave you every piece of my heart
every shattered piece
Just in hopes of you putting it together
or at least trying to
I gave you the world
But you were her world
You took the moon I gave you
And every star
You used it to brighten her dark sky
You carelessly dropped every piece of my heart
In order to have space to carry hers
Without you even asking
I gave you the breath out my lungs
I gave you the shirt off my back
The laces out my shoes
In hopes that you'll use them to tie our bond
Into a union of unconditional love
You took the breath I gave you
To kiss her so deeply
You took those same laces
To pull her closer and closer to your heart
And now here I am,
Staring at my moonless sky
Gathering my shattered heart
and breathless lungs
