I have seen nights worse than this

birds flying back to their nest
darkness knocks and arose my fear
knowing what's next, I wore my vest
the night is not but an hour near
I have seen nights worse than this.

I slowly put off the light
I feared tonight could be the end
this might be my last fight
I wished time could pend
but I've seen nights worse than this

my head aches
like fire my temperature burns
night passes yet I'm awake
it's no better with each bed turn
I have seen nights worse than this

every one else had gone to sleep
I'm left alone in pain
like a chased rabbit my heart leaps
the only companion is my brain
I have seen nights worse than this
