“I Know Her Well”

By

Circumstances have changed,
our way of life-- rearranged.
They like to call her Quarantine,
I know her well & all she brings.
She holds me in the shadows of my mind,
I laugh-- she's added on more jail time.
The minutes turn to hours,
The hours turn to days.
Too much time to myself,
I've lost all my graces and ways.
Months have passed,
I have nothing left to comfort me.
The voice in my head gets louder,
She won't let me be.
The same thoughts and fears,
Day in and day out.
She reminds me I've lost myself,
And there's no way out.
Quarantine, Quarantine,
You and her are one and the same.
I've lost myself,
And both of you are to blame.
