I Know You

I know you like my own shadow
You warm my cold hands
You are there with your hand on my shoulder
Sometimes I don't recognize you
Sometimes I refuse to,
But you are relentless, you return,
And in the end, I'm glad you came back.
You arrived as I took my first step,
Followed me from then on
Sometimes you expand and grow unrealistic,
And I have to let you go until you return to a sensible size
You make me see, you make me blind
I believe in you, then I turn my back.
But you will never stop coming
You are the cold wind,
You are the warm sunshine on my face
You are waiting for me,
At the other end of the road,
Leaning against the green street sign
That reads Destiny Avenue
You are the dream
That leaped from my heart,
That paces impatiently,
Waiting for me to become you,
And catch up
