I love you

They became space fillers
Those three simple words
Once rarely said
Now too commonly heard
But they have since lost their meaning
Said one too many times
You told me you loved me
Now I know that was a lie
But I said it right back
Although I should’ve stayed quiet
Because you’re breaking my heart
And I’m too tired to fight it
You have worn me out
Just like that phrase
The words that had meaning
That has chosen not to stay
The words that before
Could easily fix my despair
Now are breaking my heart
For which there is no repair
Because although you say you love me
And I say it too
There is nothing between us
Nothing that is true
