I Love You, Friend

I don't wanna hide my feelings because they don't hide from me
I see them as I close my eyes; they're my dreams as I sleep
They are my visions when I'm awake
They never, and never will they, give me time and space

to run away from myself or even cry for help
They want me to come forward and speak of the lovely word
that begins it all, or makes it all end
I take you for a friend, but I would also would like to pretend
that we could be what we avoid-even though we didn't intend

I speak of your beauty right in your face
And that's the point you never seem to get
It ends with hurt, that I know, and that won't change
But could there be a different way?
I sometimes wonder-but I miss you, friend
