I Miss You

I miss you,
But you've never even met me.
What happened to the you that everybody loved,
So happy and carefree?
You were changed by society against your will.
The person you've become is a living catastrophe.

I'm scared of you.
You keep saying you hear voices.
So to block them out you crank the radio
Or make obscene noises.

You smile with tears streaming down your cheeks.
I look down and see a blood-stained sleeve.
I reach out to aid you...
But you scream at me to leave.

Society says you do this for attention.
It doesn't realize they pushed you to it.
Setting unrealistic standards to be met,
They all think what you do is a skit.

Then they look at me, beginning the same harassment.
I keep my guard up, saying, "Can't you see?
That this missing person I speak of...
Is me?"
