I Realize

I’m afraid of many things

I’m afraid of heights,
of the dark,
of dying.

I’m afraid of drowning,
of loneliness,
of thoughts.

I’m afraid of fear,
of emptiness,
of close spaces

But most of all,
I’m afraid of you.

I’m afraid of losing you,
of hurting,
of love.

I’m afraid of missing you,
of breaking,
of driving you away

I’m afraid of you leaving,
of dependence,
of trust.

But now that you’re gone,
I guess I realize,
fear of the thing,
doesn’t keep it from happening.
