I Rise

Slowly open up my eyes
The warm sun's on my face
Stretch my arms out to my sides
And feel the empty space.

Shift over to the empty side
With frosty untouched sheets,
I dream about the unfamiliar
And count my strong heartbeats.

Something about the mornings
That makes me feel so free,
No one knows how he makes me feel,
Feel like I am me.

Every day I wear a mask
That some may call a smile;
I live to hide all my distress
And keep the peace for awhile.

Finally collect my morning strength
I hold my head up high,
Gather all my vacant thoughts
And kiss them all goodbye.
