I said goodbye to you today

By

I said goodbye to you today
We were friends for 36 years and miss you so
I knew you were there- even though I couldn’t see you
I took you home today
I cradled you in my lap
I carried you into our house - for the last time
I carried you up my stairs - for the last time
I sat on the sofa with you - for the last time
We didn’t know what to do with you
We didn’t want to put you in the cupboard
With our dogs and uncle Jim
Even though he has a beer
You don’t belong in the cupboard
We want you safe and warm until you go
I know I said never never
But- I didn’t want leave you there
At the chapel all alone
So we took you home - for the last time
I don’t know if I can let you go
To the ground and be cold and all alone
We’ll deal with that when it’s time
But- for for now?
You are here- in our home
For now?
You won’t be all alone
