I Saw a Little Monkey

I saw a little monkey
All green, black and tattooed.
I fed the little monkey
A worn out leather shoe.
I told said monkey to hang on
Help would soon be on the way.
I made a plea to the Lord
Let this monkey stay!
The monkey died
and I did cry.
I never will forget.
A bet a made with a sailor,
A taylor and a maid.
I bet them true
That I could win
My very own zoo,
And shoe eating monkeys
Of fantastic colors
Would come in every hue.
I lost said bet
And am now in debt,
Broke, sad and blue.
Still I have my hopes
While up against these ropes,
I'll have my monkey zoo.
