I Saw the Bride of Morning

I saw the bride of morning
Rise to meet her groom.
She was waiting in the valley,
Where midnight lillies bloom.

I saw her shining innocence,
Virgin of the dawn.
Unsullied by the day's events,
To the horizon drawn.

Her fragrance like the wild rose,
Her footsteps softest dew.
Over dusky hilltops,
From darkest night she flew.

I saw the bride of morning,
Wedded to the day,
Reach her blazing zenith,
Then slip and fade away.
