I Should Have Known

I should have known
That you would never see the appeal
And reciprocate what I feel.
I should have known
That the one time I was willing
To take down my steel walls.
To finally open my heart and give my all;
The one time I was willing to fall,
I should have known
You wouldn't be there.
You stopped and stared
As my heart slammed into the concrete.
I was too caught up to land on my feet.
I should have known.
From the start, you were hers to own.
I was only allowed to pine
From the great distance of Cloud Nine.
In my mind,
You were mine
But, I should have known.
