I Thought I Rescued a Puppy

By Spock

I thought we rescued a puppy,
and then, we rescued more.
In less than eighteen months,
The pack was up to four.

The quite home it came to life,
the quite was no more.
Our still replaced with barks and growls,
as friends came to the door.

Our spare time was filled with doggy chores,
such as frequent trips outdoors.
Toss the ball and puppy walks,
followed scratching at the door.

I thought we rescued a puppy,
but maybe I was wrong,
Our days are filled with smiles and laughs,
The days are never long.

I thought we rescued a puppy,
they have made our life complete.
There's nothing like a loyal dog,
lying at your feet.

This Poems Story

When the last of our five dogs had crossed the bridge on the Path of Souls we just couldn’t bare the thought of another loss. Each had lived 16 years or more which is a long life for the breeds we raised. Never again led to one, two, three and four dogs that needed us as much as we needed them. This is what I have captured in the poem entitled I thought I rescued a puppy.
