I want to be a tree

I want to be a tree

To see where my roots were planted
Firmly in the ground

For you to see me grow
Steady yet slow

To look up at me one day
When things are just out of place
Because you can lean on me

I want to be a tree

In winters long cold embrace
Leaves laying in waste

Naked yet not afraid
Now you really see me

Through the darkest of night
And the coldest of place

The smallest of light
Brings spring

When leaves bloom a new
Oceans of grey into green

The most beautiful thing seen
The created being one with Creator
You can lean on me

I want to be a tree

After long summer’s sun
And even longer night

In the darkest of dark
In the deepest of fight
You can lean on me

I want to be a tree

And when fall comes
In my greatest of bloom

When oceans of green melt into orange in yellow

I Remember my roots
Firmly planted in the ground

That make me grow
Steady yet slow

I remember

That I need you
As much as you need me

I remember

That in the coldest night
In the darkest grey
In the warmest yellow in green

That I will bloom again
As you have for me

The most beautiful thing that could be

To carry each other
And help another yearn for our maker

I want to be a tree
