I Was Poet Once

I was poet once
filled with romance and dreams
youthful innocents
beauty and love
with no rhyme or reason
my muses though had many faces
the love of the time
times long past
some of them, still dance through my heart
upon a carousel of mostly fond memories
hours of love spent
I was poet once
the innocents have grown old now
yet a light shines at the end of a very long tunnel
and the other direction
footfalls through those sands of times long since past
there's music and flickering light coming from there
childlike laughter
at a picnic upon setting sun's red-plaid skirts
I was poet once
with no rhyme nor reason
