I went to La Chua

I went to La Chua
to learn things from the birds
and creeping things
the angling heron whispered of focus
while dancing a martial pavan to the meter
of snail shells and toads’ croaks
and the alligator floated a lesson
in indifference sublime and dreadful
repeated by a chorus of love-bugs
buzzing at the thighs of other hikers
it is a place to drown in the sentiment
that you must take drugs
to tell your parents you love them
and lose your self among floating islands of grass
and the archipelagic minds of others
