I Will Never Forget You

One night I was talking to my mom
We had a nice long talk, but at the end of it
She told me not to forget her
My mom was in a nursing home

How could I forget the person who brought me into this world?
My parents have always been my rock
Offering me their advice, always showing me their love
Providing me with their never-ending strength

Who would have thought that life's journey
Would have brought me here
That my two rocks in life
Would need to lean on me
That they would need me
To help guide them down the right path

So how could I ever forget
The two people who taught me what love and respect are all about
The two people who wiped my tears?

When I was sick, they were there
Now when they are sick, I am there
Time has turned this table on me
Now my rocks in life need me to be there, to be strong

So I will never forget you, Mom
I will never forget your love, I will never forget your spirit
I will never forget our memories, I will never forget you

This Poems Story

What inspired me to write this poem was talking to my mom; at the end of our conversation she said to me, "Please don't forget me." My mom was in a nursing home. She had dementia, Parkinson's, and later pneumonia. So I wrote this poem for my mom and read it to her. She said she thought it was beautiful. About a week later my mom passed away. This poem was for my wonderful mom whom I will miss dearly.
