Ice Cold Rain

I sit in the yard, feeling dejected,
as the rain pours down.
Just when I thought
that I had it all figured out
things came apart,
and I've never felt so bad
like I'm feeling now.
Funny how a friendship
once so strong,
can fall apart in shreds -
coming undone at the seams,
and letting loose its threads.
What a way to end my year -
with the rain coming down without cease,
I can't tell a rain drop from a tear.
All joy, all happiness,
has been seeped from my spirit,
but now that I have numbed the pain
with the help of some ice cold rain,
maybe I can go sit by the fire
and find again the warmth and love
that my heart so desires.
