If I Could Paint Your Eyes

If I could paint your eyes,
I would start with pale green.
A delicate amount would be spread—
Spun in circular motions.

And on top I would swirl the ocean,
Waves crashing into the green
Capturing a mesmerizing deep sea.

In small strokes
I'd layer hints of gold
Just on the top of each wave where the sunlight hits.

And to finish,
I would dip just the tip of my brush in white paint,
Bend back the bristles,
And let go…

Speckling the sea with foam.
