If I have Child

If I have a child
She’ll know
He’ll know
They'll know
That their mother chose to love them

As who they are
Not just as her children
Not just as her blood
But loved them for their humanity

They’ll know the mightiness of her strength
But the gentleness of her touch
Learning that the world could crumble and fall
But that she had loved it all

They'll know they can survive it
Through faults and flaws
Because she could
For her

For them
For anyone
Who needed a hand
A shoulder to cry upon

If I have a child
They will know great beauty
That the world charges a great expense
But it was all worth it, to love
And be loved in return.

This Poems Story

Watched a Ted Talk where a woman wrote a poem about if she has a child. I thought I would write my own.
