If I Only Could

I often sit and ponder
of a simpler more gracious time.
Those sweet days of childhood,
I remember of mine.
I'd turn back the hands of time,
if I only could.

And let the children of today,
experience what they should,
to be a carefree child
without a single fear,
to never have to be afraid
or ever shed a tear.

I'd wipe away the hunger
that many of them feel,
and forever take away that shame
of having to worry about a meal.

The children of today
have pressures beyond belief,
our children are too young
to feel such sadness
and such grief.

The innocence of childhood goes away,
much quicker than it should.
And how I'd turn back the hands of time,
if I only could.

This Poems Story

Hi! My name is Ann Marie German. I currently live in Longview, WA, and am a proud parent of five children, ages thirty-five, thirty-three, thirty-two, thirty and thirteen. Along with my poetry, I am in the process of writing a motivational book and am a student at Walden University. My journey at Walden will end with a master's degree in business administration. My goal with this achievement is to then start a non-profit to raise money for our low-income schools.
