If I’ve Ever Truly Loved

If I have ever truly loved,
then let them know that it was she
who made my cold heart cry with joy,
'twas she who truly wakened me.

For years and years I could not breathe,
and only tears could clearly see
a day when I would feel once more
the love I chanced upon with she.

For who am I? But just a sin
to all who ever trusted me,
a fox inside a rabbit's skin,
and all who never cared to see.

She did not see who I'd become
and did not know to comfort me,
but rather showed her truthful self
and instead showed me who to be.

So if I've ever truly loved,
let it be known that it was she
who did not let me be myself,
for all my pain was caused by me.
