If only

IF ONLY

Oh, Aremu!!! If only I knew
That the beautiful words your tongue unrolled
Like baba agba's old wooden mat were deceit

Aremu, if only I knew
That the spider does not produce honey
Like you made me believe, rather the bee

Aremu, if only I knew
That ours was not the paradise you painted
But the government's abandoned project

Aremu, if only I knew
That the red rose you gave me at the village square
The one that won my heart, was a painted one

If only I knew, Aremu
I wouldn't have come out that night to see the beauty of the full moon with you
