If only you would look

Look.
A young girl stands
silently
in the middle of her green
and white doorway.
Look closer.
Her eyes mimic
the pain of her community.
They are dark
as the sky
before the storm.
Only with her,
the storm is
already hitting hard.
But if you look
even more closely,
then you can see
that like the storm,
she isn’t finished.
Not yet.
The shine in her eyes,
the quiet determination,
tells more than the words
that have never left her mouth.
She isn’t done.
If you would only look.
