If You Really Knew Me

By Kris

I’m tired of pretending to be okay
I’m tired of faking a smile when I just want to cry
I’m tired of telling people “I’m okay”
There is more than meets the eye

I’m tired of hiding my pain
I’m tired of hearing “Your such a crybaby”
I just want to be okay
There is more than meets the eye

If you really knew me you would know
sometimes i’m hurting
Sometimes I just need a friend
Someone to listen to my pain
There is more than meets the eye

If you really knew me you would know my mom overdosed on drugs when I was only 3
If you really knew me you would know my dad committed suicide 2 weeks later
If you really knew me you would know I spent 12 years in foster care
No one wanted me
I was rejected by 4 families
I tried so hard to impress every one of them
But they didn't want a depressed teenager
If you really knew me you would know I’ve attempted to commit suicide 4 times
If you really knew me you would know that I just want someone to love me

This Poems Story

Throughout my 17 years on this earth I have met dozens of people. I've heard many stories, but there are some stories that have stuck with me or really hit me. I came up with a fictional character that has been through it all foster care, suicide attempts, etc.. I hope you enjoy and please comment any comments. I would love feedback good and bad!
