If Your Autism Could Go Away

I would say I love you
And you would say it too
I would watch you play with toys
The way the other children do
I would comb your hair and brush your teeth
Without the tears and screams
I would listen to your stories
You could tell me about your dreams
We would shop in stores together
You wouldn't mind the crowd
People would ask you, "What is your name?"
You would answer them so proud
You would sit and watch some TV
Not repeating every word
You would turn your head when I called your name
I'd know that I was heard
But to wish autism to leave you
Even if for just one day
Would mean you would be different
In so many of these ways
I wouldn't really want this
It would change the child I love
For it's autism that has made you
An angel from above
