II Self II

By RG

Everyday I check the mirror
Everyday I find a figure
Riddled, rattled, renewed
A figure within the mirror
And within it another
The reflection inside moves
Its curious eyes doubts
As I do, my own self
Is it a reflection or am l?
Which is true and which real?

Everyday I check the mirror and ask
O Mirror, Mirror, show me the truth,
And the liar shows a shadow,
As true as a madman's dream
It screams with hollow eyes, voiceless
And I still, at its cry shrill.

Everyday I check the mirror
And everyday I father thee
The mirror midwife, thou rest at its lap,
Cajoled; and me sure, thou art not me.
