I’m A Poet, I Hope You Know It

I don’t write poetry to be eloquent and witty
I don’t even write poetry to be sweet and pretty
I write poetry to reveal a piece of my spirit
I write poetry so you can love and revere it
Because to love my poetry is to love a piece of me
I hope you see that my poetry is really just a key

I don’t write poetry to make you feel good inside
I don’t even write poetry for my pride
I write poetry because I’m a human and I feel
I write poetry because it’s one of the only things that’s real
If you don’t believe me, read a poem that touches your heart
Because I’ve read poems that have ripped my life apart

I don’t write poetry because it’s a game
And I don’t write poetry as my claim to fame
I write poetry to help keep some sanity
I write poetry to help save humanity
Because without art, imagine all the anxiety
We all know artists are the heart of a society

I don’t write poetry because I think it’s fun and easy
And I don’t write poetry to be simple and cheesy
I write poetry so the truth can see the light of day
I write poetry because I can’t live any other way
