I’m Sorry

Rip up the words
They hide but the lines
Are too thin to conceal
They cower as embarrassment
Streaks and runs
Off old images in the tear-filled
Lake of my eyes
My pen is stopped
The ink blots out
Please forgive me
As my words splatter
And collapse like lungs
Flattened bulbs
That open and shut
Without sound
Too ashamed to speak
I am sorry
They can't say
