Image of Me
Standing in the mirror, afraid to see
my own image looking back at me,
a mirror reflecting what the naked eyes can see,
I ask myself, "Can anyone truly love
the reflection of me?" Society dictates
of what my image is supposed to be.
White skin wanting to be black
nappy hair wanting to be straight,
and fat people wanting to be skinny.
A mirror is a reflection of what God
wants you to see.
Your soul is a reminder of who
He wants you to be.
Staring in the mirror, I was surprised to see
one of God's greatest creations
smiling back at me.

This Poems Story
I am a native of Mobile, AL, and I currently reside in San Antonio, TX. I've never read the entire body of another artist's work because I've always wanted my work to be my original thought. This particular poem is one of many from my book called Simplicity Poetry. My personal thought behind the poem came from when I started losing weight without even trying, yet I still wasn't satisfied. The scripture to support the poem is Jeremiah 1:5 that says, "Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you; before you were born, I set you apart."
