Images of Christmas

Christmas is houses with holiday lights
Driving around to enjoy them at night
By day people shopping and dashing around
Everyone smiling with nary a frown
Thinking of gifts for family and friends
Looking so forward to gathering with kin!
Visits to Santa for children to say
Just what they long for to see Christmas Day
The waft of iced cookies and fresh Gingerbread
Fill up the senses and go to the head
Finding a tree that will be “just the one”
To fill up with ornaments ‘til all is done
Last comes the angel to place way up high
And lighting the tree, what a sight for the eyes!
The home will be full of such holiday cheer
You want all to stay up throughout the new year
Listening to songs that were heard long ago
While wrapping the presents in paper and bows
Fireplaces blazing with thoughts of good will
And singing to carols while stockings are filled
Everyone hoping this year for some snow
Enough to make snowmen and snowballs to throw
The children aren’t sleeping but staying awake
Hoping for sounds that the reindeer might make
And on Christmas Day the young ones are thrilled
To see all the toys and if stockings are filled
After the packages are all ripped and torn
They’re told the true meaning, THE CHRIST CHILD IS BORN??

This Poems Story

My husband passed away and this season brings a lot of memories of times gone by…including childhood memories of Christmas. I just decided to bring those thoughts to paper.
