Immortal beloved

immortal beloved what a tragedy we have been
a disaster inevitable from the beginning it seemed
our love that was not strong enough
we’d hope that we could be tough

the words you just did not say
to help me to understand and stay
behind a vail of drinking
feelings you had got you thinking

in the end the only thing I could do was run
not from our love, but the man you’ve become
sorrow and sadness, I kindled for you
grieving the only thing I knew how to do

at last I realized that we
was not more than a dream could be
immortal beloved so deep in my heart
my soul my existence forever scarred

This Poems Story

I wrote this poem about my first and only love. We are still friends after fifteen years. The hardest part was not the divorce, but the longing to rekindle our love. At last I accepted that this was the end of our book and not the end of a chapter.
