In My Son’s Eyes
A thousand times I have seen them
I have thought these thoughts.
Two of them sparkle so bright
They penetrate the universe with light.
Express they do when even sad
His drive and joy and confidence
Express they do no matter what
An inner core of great resilience.
Remarkable he is to me
As he attacks life
And won't let it be.
I'm sure, at least, I hope and pray
His eyes will always shine that way.
Two of them, so soft and brown
They always seem to look around.
What they see seems to go inside
And from what they see, he seems to hide.
So soft his soul I hope and pray
God will hold him close each day.
Two of them, they look up at me
And seem to be all I can be.
They are so calm and compassionate.
They understand the world and yet,
They look up at me.
He makes me bigger than I am,
He makes me so much of a man.
For him I have no fear at all.
Some how, some where in my sons' eyes
I understand why I'm alive.
